St. Michael’s Martin Luther King Day Celebration

January 14, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 11:30 am

ST. MICHAEL’S CELEBRATES MARTIN LUTHER KING, SUNDAY JANUARY 14:

On Sunday January 14, St. Michael’s celebrates Martin Luther King. Charles Mays, Jr will lead the Adult Forum at 9:00 am and he will preach at the 15:15 service. Charles will speak about King’s dream today through the lens of an African-American musician who has sung at Marlboro Festival and with Susan Dedell’s Concert Choir and who has won the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Award. The Social Justice Ministry asked Charles several questions:

  •   “What does a black man have to say to a predominantly white congregation on MLK Sunday?”
  •   “What can white allies offer African Americans?”
  •   “Do you see signs of hope?”

When he accepted the invitation to spend the morning with us, Mr. Mays wrote: “I will hope I can offer something to challenge and inspire the congregation to introspection resulting in outward action.” At the 8:00 am service on Martin Luther King Sunday, January 14, David Carr, a member of the Social Justice Ministry and a retired Methodist pastor will be the preacher.
