SUMMARY:Coming Home: How and Why to live a Deep-Hearted Life
DESCRIPTION:On  Saturday morning June 13 (9am-12pm)\, Will Duncan\, teacher of meditation and scripture from many traditions\, will be at St. Michael’s to share learnings from his recent three-year\, silent retreat in Arizona. Duncan studied for many years with Reverend Murray Rogers\, an Anglican priest who lived in India and devoted his ministry to working with Christians and Hindus\, and he continues to seek spiritual wisdom in the Christian\, Hindu and Buddhist traditions. He teaches meditation\, yoga and scripture around the world\, bringing down-to-earth sincerity\, humor and joy to his classes. You can check out his website at www.willduncan.org. \nWill writes: With meditation I teach systematic stillness practices to a wide variety of populations from people suffering with extreme addictions to business executives to busy moms… In the world of yoga I focus on helping people access joy in their practice and feel gratitude for\, with\, and in their bodies. After a three year solitary yoga and meditation retreat I began to experience yoga as a kind of moving celebratory prayer and I attempt to share that with others…My interest in scripture is in combining the brilliance of western psychology with the profundity of ancient wisdom. I seek to make the wisdom traditions applicable to real people in a world of addiction\, heartbreak\, and stress. As alcohol addiction is highly dangerous it is always better to consult experts from refocus rehab as they can help you to get rid off alcohol addiction. \nMark your calendars for two days of insightful\, humorous and deep discussions of how and why to live a deep-hearted life.

SUMMARY:Recovery Sunday
DESCRIPTION:RECOVERY SUNDAY\, APRIL 26: At both 8 and 10:15 services next Sunday\, we celebrate God in action in people’s lives today. Recovery comes in every shape and form. In a real sense it is a name for the Spiritual Journey as we seek to reclaim and recover our identity as children of God. A member of St. Michael’s\, Megan B\, will share her experiences of recovery within and around her. The service will reflect this theme in readings and prayers. Recovery Sunday is becoming a tradition at St. Michael’s having been celebrated in the past three years.

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday Service\, 7 pm
DESCRIPTION:The word Maundy is derived from the Latin word\, madatum (commandment)\, and refers to Jesus giving the “new commandment” to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34) to his disciples at the Last Supper.   The Maundy Thursday service commemorates the Last supper and often focuses on two things Jesus did at the Last Supper: washing of the disciples’ feed and the institution of the sacrament of Holy Communion.   The service ends in complete silence with the stripping of the altar\, in recognition of Jesus prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane and the despair and death to come.

SUMMARY:Palm Sunday\, March 29\, 8 & 10:15am
DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday\, March 29\, 8 & 10:15am. This special liturgy begins with a procession (led by a real donkey and some spirited music) of the congregation and the blessing of the palms\, commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The Gospel reading is the complete story of the Passion.  The service underlines the contrast between the crowd’s joyous greeting of their king and then their condemnation of him—the contrast between shouts of “Alleluia” and “Crucify him!” \n

SUMMARY:Three in the Wilderness
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 14 at 7:00 pm\, the dynamic team of Finn Campman and Paul Dedell present Three in the Wilderness\, a modern mystery play. Featuring vocals by the inimitable Zara Bode\, the evocative and sophisticated puppets of Finn Campman\, and narrated by local legend Tony Barrand\,  this show explores the complexities of Christ’s Temptation in the Wilderness.  The show will be presented one time only at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Brattleboro before it travels up to be performed in Burlington. \nComposer Paul Dedell’s original music provides an exotic soundscape\, evoking a feeling of the Middle East. Speaking about the music\, he says\, “I chose the violin\, resonating guitar\, harmonium\, and percussion for this score. I like the sound a lot — the combination of harmonium and resonating guitar creates a completely new sound that is almost unidentifiable. The violin soars over this\, and matches the energy of each of the temptations –frenetic\, soulful\, questioning.  I’m excited to have violinist Moby Pearson playing for this show\, as well as Stefan Amidon on percussion.  I play the resonating guitar.  Stefan and I occasionally sing with Tony and Zara – both of whom really knock my socks off.” \nFinn Campman designed and built the puppet figures of Christ\, the Devil\, and a third character known as the Fool. Campman is well known for his work with Sandglass Theater\, and is co-founder and director of The Company of Strangers.  Dedell comments\, “Finn captures magic through objects. Whether it is a bird or bread roll\, these objects carry and convey the emotional weight of the story. The puppets themselves are beautiful\, and Finn and his fellow puppeteers Kirk Murphy and Helen Schmidt are highly practiced at their craft. The respect they have for the puppets as living creations is profound.” \nIn addition to the music that Dedell composed for this production\, he included and arranged songs that bring the text to life in a contemporary manner. Among them are country songs such as “There Stands the Glass”\, traditional ballads and political songs such as “The Man who Waters the Workers Beer”\, old hymns\, and fittingly\, a blues song of Robert Johnson\, “Me and the Devil.” \nThe performance will be at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church\, which is located at the corner of Bradley Avenue and Putney Road. It is part of a series of events produced by Winged Productions\, Paul and Susan Dedell\, directors.  Suggested admission donation is $10. SUMMARY:Choir School Begins New Session
DESCRIPTION:REHEARSALS START ON JAN. 20\, 3:45-4:45  for “Out of the Lion’s Mouth”  \nA refresher about the project: \n“Out of the Lion’s Mouth” is a new musical by Paul Dedell inspired by the medieval “mystery plays”  and written for children’s voices.  It tells the Old Testament story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den.  Children will be singing the songs of the Satraps\, who were the petty (and not to be trusted!)  officials of King Darius the Mede\, as well as the songs of the infamous hungry lions of the lion pit\, and of course\, Daniel.  There will be group choral singing\, and opportunities for small group singing\, and short solos. \nBoth the Satraps and the lions sing fun\, tuneful\, and boisterous songs full of attitude and character.  It is a pretty wild story\, where eventually all the Satraps are eaten by the lions but Daniel is saved by his integrity and faith.  Fun is had by all. \nThe performances of “Out of the Lion’s Mouth” are on March 20\, 21\, and 22 and will take place at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. A small band of professional musicians will accompany the show. \nI look forward to seeing you!
