She is in residence on the grounds of Holy Cross Monastery in West Park\, New York. \nShane Phelan\, CMA is the co-founder of the Companions of Mary the Apostle\, a new women’s religious community in the Episcopal Church.  She is an Episcopal priest\, retreat leader\, and spiritual director.  She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science\, and taught political philosophy and women studies at the University of New Mexico from 1988 to 2000.  She is the author of five books on lesbian and gay politics.  She was ordained and has served at parishes in the diocese of Newark.  She now lives on the grounds of Holy Cross Monastery in West Park\, NY. \n

DESCRIPTION:So many parishioners asked if we could offer the class on “Mere Christianity” again that we are happy to do so. The class will begin on Wednesday\, April 30\, meeting from 5:30 – 6:30 pm in the Meeting Room for five weeks. “Mere Christianity” is one of the most influential and beloved Christian books ever written. It remains a best-seller\, and it has shaped the faith and lives of countless people. This is the good stuff\, the real core of who we are (or are trying to be) as Christians. A healthy snack will be provided for all between the time of 3:20 and 3:40.\nStudents should commit to an entire session\, except for absences due to illness or prescheduled event.\n\nGeneral Information\nWe aim to provide a nurturing and motivational singing experience. Our Choristers are boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 11 years old. The ability to read music is not required\, but the desire to sing and learn is! The most important chorister attribute is an open and curious mind\, and the desire to learn great music. \nThe choir school is open to all regardless of religious affiliation or level of musical ability. Our young singers will learn posture and breathing\, tone quality and intonation\, and notation basics for both pitch and rhythm. SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Maundy Thursday\, April 17\, 7pm –  The word Maundy is derived from the Latin word\, madatum (commandment)\, and refers to Jesus giving the “new commandment” to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34) to his disciples at the Last Supper.   The Maundy Thursday service commemorates the Last supper and often focuses on two things Jesus did at the Last Supper: washing of the disciples’ feed and the institution of the sacrament of Holy Communion.   The service ends in complete silence with the stripping of the altar\, in recognition of Jesus prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane and the despair and death to come.  All are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday\, April 13\, 8 & 10:15am.  This special liturgy begins with a procession of the congregation (with Sophia the Donkey and some spirited music) and the blessing of the palms\, commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The Gospel reading is the complete story of the Passion.  The service underlines the contrast between the crowd’s joyous greeting of their king and then their condemnation of him—the contrast between shouts of “Alleluia” and “Crucify him!”   We gather in the Undercroft (on the lower level) at 10 am to get ready for the parade.   All are welcome!

SUMMARY:Shattered Mosaic: Refugees in the Middle East Crises
DESCRIPTION:led by Christopher George of Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS). IRIS is a program of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut and is the local affiliate of Episcopal Migration Ministries and the Immigration and Refugee Program of Church World Service. IRIS resettles approximately 200 refugees each year and provides services to asylees and other immigrants. Currently\, IRIS’ refugee clients come from Afghanistan\, Congo\, Cuba\, Eritrea\, Ethiopia\, Iran\, Iraq\, Sudan\, and other countries.

DESCRIPTION:Middle East Primer with Nicholas Porter\, an Episcopal priest and founder/ director of Jerusalem Peacebuilders. With a master’s  in Middle East Studies from the American University in Cairo\, a master’s in War Studies from King’s College at the University of London and an M.Div. from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale\, Porter was ordained to the priesthood in 1995 and has served as curate at St. George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem and as sub-dean and canon pastor at the American Cathedral in Paris. He served as rector of Trinity Church in Southport\, Connecticut\, from 2006–2013 and now resides with his family in Brattleboro.
