Did you ever feel so wronged that your anger led you to do or say things that were hurtful? Or maybe………….you were on the other side of these situations??! IF SO: how does forgiveness\, love\, and true healing take place? The Choir School is proud to invite you to “Theophilia”\, an original mystery play written and scripted by Paul Dedell\, with musical direction by Susan Dedell. Theophilia is based on a medieval miracle play written by the troubadour Rutebeuf in early 13th century France\, and is the story of a person who makes a pact with the devil in order to regain status and make misery for the townspeople who wronged him. Our young people have taken this subject matter to heart and they bring new life and energy into a story that is as timely today as it was 800 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nyears ago. Plan on attending one of these performances and be part of the “miracle” yourself!

On Sunday June 11\, we are inviting the community to be with us as St. Michael’s celebrates PRIDE Sunday. At both the 8:00 am and 10:15 am services\, our worship and liturgy will reflect the joy of our diversity as human beings and the sermon will include reflection and witness from Janet Cramer. \nIn addition we will host a special 9:00 a.m. Forum on “What is it like to grow up gender fluid?” led by Jake Mattson and his family. An 11-year old member of St. Michael’s\, Jake will speak to us about his experience of not having a fixed gender identity. Jake\, who lives in Colrain\, Massachusetts\, often speaks at schools and other public venues to help people understand gender fluidity. The PRIDE services and Forum are a great opportunity to invite friends from the community to join us.

DESCRIPTION:RIVER PILGRIMAGE COMES TO BRATTLEBORO: SUNDAY\, JUNE 25: \nJOIN US FOR A DAY OF CELEBRATING OUR CONNECTICUT RIVER \nFrom May 31-July 9\, River Pilgrims of all faiths will be paddling portions of the Connecticut River from its headwaters to its mouth in Long Island Sound. \nRejoice in and give thanks for the miracle of all life that is made possible by the grace of God through water. This spiritual journey of renewal\, restoration\, and reconciliation\, is shaped by the Christian tradition around a series of activities along the Connecticut River\, from the Source to the Sea. \nWater is central to life\, and living\, flowing rivers have played an integral role in ecological\, social\, economic and spiritual practice worldwide since time immemorial. The Connecticut River is a prime example of a river carrying the lifeblood of a region. We’ll be joined by members of the Pilgrimage on Sunday June 25\, in worship\, food\, paddling and contemplative practice. \nThe first part of the morning will take place at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church\, 16 Bradley Avenue. \n9 AM: Adult Education Forum: “Honoring the Living Waters of our Earth and Our Lives” with reflections on “Water Justice” and “Watershed Discipleship” led by Cary Gaunt and Fred Taylor \n10:15 AM: Sunday Service of Worship: Theme of Sacred Water\, with Guest Preacher\, Rev. DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL SUMMER FORUM\, SUNDAY AUGUST 6: “REFUGEE DISLOCATION\, FLIGHT AND MIGRATION IN AN INCREASINGLY UNWELCOMING WORLD” — On August 6 from 9:00-10:00\, Dr. Laura Hammond of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London will present and lead a discussion on the above. Displacement has happened as a result of natural causes such as drought and demographic shifts\, but also because of human created causes\, such as civil wars\, deforestation\, famine\, governmental neglect and oppression\, racism\, religious fundamentalism\, intolerance and ethnic cleansing\, genocidal policies and even climate change. Millions of people throughout the world\, from Latin America\, the Middle East\, Africa and Asia are uprooted and homeless; yet risking their very lives\, they search our world for a home. Laura will speak of all this\, but also of humane societies and countries where hope persists\, of efforts within our international community to provide new homes at last\, and of the young and old who do create new lives for themselves\, against all odds. Her experience is rooted in the Horn of Africa – particularly Ethiopia and Somalia – where she has worked for the past 25 years.

Kate and Dana McGinn have generously agreed to host the picnic at their place\, which is right next to the lake\, with a great porch for sitting\, wonderful grounds for playing and great access to the lake for swimming\, kayaking\, etc. There will be games\, swimming and a chance to sit and visit with those (both old and new) from our St. Michael’s Community. Drinks\, hot dogs\, hamburgers and veggie burgers will be provided by the church. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. And don’t forget your bathing suits!

DESCRIPTION:EXPLORE JOINING A DISCIPLESHIP GROUP\, SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 30\, 9 AM-NOON OR MONDAY OCTOBER 2\, 5 PM- 8 PMIN THE MEETING ROOM \nCome reflect on the meaning of discipleship in the Episcopal tradition and share some of your stories about what following Jesus has meant in your life. Learn about a vibrant small group discipleship ministry flourishing across the country in Episcopal Churches that includes a format for prayer\, sharing from the heart\, and exploring calls to ministry in the community. Discern whether you feel drawn to being a member of a St Michael’s small group for a season and learn the next steps for joining a group. The 9/30 and 10/2 meetings will be a time of prayer\, a time of sharing\, and a time of learning. Anyone should attend who’s interested in being part of a small group. It is NOT necessary to attend the introductions on both days; we wanted to offer a weekday and a weekend option so as many people as possible could explore being part of a group.

DESCRIPTION:EXPLORE JOINING A DISCIPLESHIP GROUP\, SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 30\, 9 AM-NOON OR MONDAY OCTOBER 2\, 5 PM- 8 PMIN THE MEETING ROOM \nCome reflect on the meaning of discipleship in the Episcopal tradition and share some of your stories about what following Jesus has meant in your life. Learn about a vibrant small group discipleship ministry flourishing across the country in Episcopal Churches that includes a format for prayer\, sharing from the heart\, and exploring calls to ministry in the community. Discern whether you feel drawn to being a member of a St Michael’s small group for a season and learn the next steps for joining a group. The 9/30 and 10/2 meetings will be a time of prayer\, a time of sharing\, and a time of learning. Anyone should attend who’s interested in being part of a small group. It is NOT necessary to attend the introductions on both days; we wanted to offer a weekday and a weekend option so as many people as possible could explore being part of a group.

DESCRIPTION:I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints\, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. – Paul’s letter to the Ephesians \nOn November 5\, St. Michael’s will celebrate the Feast of All Saints’ at both the 8 am and the 10:15 am service.  During this service\, we will remember those saints who have gone before us and loved ones who have died\, as well as recognize ourselves as those ‘saints’ who have been called to follow Jesus with our whole selves.   On this day\, we will remember in our prayers those who have died during the last year. \n\nIf you have people you would like to be named in the prayers\, please add them to the book in the back of the church.\nIf you have pictures of loved ones who have died whose lives you want to give thanks for\, we will provide two tables in the chancel area (in front of the altar and in the corner) as a visible reminder of the saints who have come before us for worship that day.\nBecause this is a major feast day\, we will have incense at the 10:15 am service.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Interfaith Thanksgiving Service \nAll are invited to an Interfaith Service of Thanksgiving on Tuesday Nov 21 at 7 pm\, held at the First Baptist Church\, 190 Main Street in Brattleboro. Leaders and members of various faith communities will be involved\, sharing from their own traditions. There will be singing and choirs of all ages. \nThis is an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for the amazing support and generosity of neighbor to neighbor in our community; and recognizing in the midst of all the ups and downs of life\, we have many blessings to share. An offering of non-perishables contributions will be accepted at the door to benefit the Brattleboro Drop-in Center. This service is sponsored by the Brattleboro Area Interfaith Clergy Association.
