The Feast of St. Francis Earth Mass

- FRANCIS DAY, SUNDAY OCTOBER 4, 10:15 am: We will be celebrating the Feast of St. Francis with the Missa Gaia (Earth Mass)! This is going to be a wonderful, spirit-filled celebration, with music that will move you! Our adult choir will be joined by the children of the Choir School, and guest instrumentalists. The mass was one of the first contributions made by Paul Winter when he became the artist in residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC., and it has become an annual event there that attracts literally thousands. In addition to the instrumentation, the voices of wolves, whales, and birds are woven into the piece, sometimes even as the melody. The best thing about the piece, in my opinion, is that it captures and involves the spiritual sense of joy AND gratitude. And aren’t we all filled with just that as we enter the Vermont autumn?
